Martin specialises in helping leaders create an enabling workplace culture that delivers their societal, operational, and financial targets. He works with executive boards, senior leadership teams and individuals, helping them identify and consciously practice the ways of thinking, being and acting that help them and those they lead be at their best more of the time.
He is a skilled and innovative coach and facilitator, adept at working with individuals, intact teams, and action learning groups.
Prior to becoming a full-time coach, Martin spent over 20 years working in technical leadership roles for some of the world’s biggest and most complex organisations including BHP Billiton, BP, Centrica, EON, Total and Shell.
His experience spans the whole organisational spectrum from the boardroom to the operational frontline, having held director levels roles in risk management and technical support functions and senior leadership roles within onshore and offshore production operational assets and engineering projects. This experience allows Martin to blend leadership development and consultancy expertise with first-hand knowledge of what it is like to lead and influence on the front-line of complex technological organisations. This means that his work is grounded in the reality of every-day operational life, not theoretical or idealised models.
Martin is a Professional Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation, an Associate Fellow of Cranfield University’s School of Management, a visiting lecturer at Sheffield University, a Fellow of the Energy Institute and a Professional Chartered Engineer.
He holds a Diploma in Advanced Executive Coaching, a First-Class degree in Mechanical Engineering and a MSc (with Distinction) in Structural Integrity.
